14TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY: SYNW REBRANDS LOGOS OF AKURE BOOK CLUB, EKITI BOOK CLUB

 

The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW Global) has unveiled newly redesigned logos for two of its prominent initiatives, the Akure Book Club and the Ekiti Book Club, as part of the 14th-anniversary celebration of the society. This rebranding also marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of both clubs.

This announcement was made in a press release issued by Wole Adedoyin, Founder of the Akure and Ekiti Book Clubs, who emphasized the symbolic importance of the new logos in representing the progress and vision of the clubs.

The Ekiti Book Club (EBC) has become a cultural beacon in Ekiti State, spearheading literary events such as the Ekiti Poetry Festival (EKPOFEST). This festival has provided a platform for poets and literary enthusiasts to showcase their talent, fostering a deeper appreciation for poetry within the region.

Meanwhile, the Akure Book Club has made its mark through its flagship event, the Akure Book and Art Festival. The festival has been a convergence point for writers, artists, and intellectuals, celebrating literature and the arts while inspiring the community to embrace creativity.

Speaking on the rebranding initiative, Mr. Adedoyin noted that the redesigned logos reflect the clubs’ growth and commitment to their missions. “These new logos signify a fresh chapter in our journey, showcasing the vibrant and innovative spirit of the Akure and Ekiti Book Clubs,” he said.

The rebranding is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the identity and visibility of both clubs, encouraging greater participation from members of the literary community and the general public. It is also a testimony to SYNW Global’s dedication to fostering a strong literary culture across Nigeria.

The Akure Book Club has congratulated Gabriel Sunday Afolayan, the Ondo State Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), on the joyous occasion of his 56th birthday.

In a statement released by Wole Adedoyin, the founder of the Akure Book Club, the organization expressed its admiration and deep appreciation for Afolayan's exceptional contributions to the literary and intellectual world. "Gabriel Sunday Afolayan has been a beacon of inspiration in the literary community, and his tireless dedication to the arts has profoundly impacted both the local and national landscape," Adedoyin remarked.

Gabriel Sunday Afolayan stands out as a notable Nigerian writer, journalist, lecturer, and public affairs commentator. His work spans prose fiction, poetry, and creative essays, showcasing his versatility and talent. 

Afolayan's journey into writing began during his university years, with contributions of articles, short stories, and local news to national newspapers and magazines. He holds a Master's degree in Mass Communication from Nnamdi Azikwe University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in "Media and Ethno-political Crises in Nigeria" at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Afolayan's extensive career in journalism is marked by his tenure with prominent publications such as the National Concord, The Guardian, and Issues news magazine. His work in these outlets honed his skills in investigative and interpretative journalism. Beyond journalism, Afolayan also made significant strides in the manufacturing sector, where he rose to the position of Marketing Manager in a vegetable oil company. Presently, he imparts his knowledge as a lecturer, teaching journalism, media, and communication courses at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Nigeria.

Additionally, Afolayan's keen insights on societal issues have made him a sought-after guest on television and radio stations in Ondo State, where he regularly shares his perspectives on current affairs.

The literary achievements of Gabriel Sunday Afolayan are numerous and noteworthy. His debut novel, "Beyond the Silent Grave," received critical acclaim and was nominated for several prestigious awards. Afolayan has also authored other significant works, including "Romoke: The Little Orphan," and co-edited collections like "Pa Jeje's Legendary Tales" and "The Sunshine Tales." These publications have been extensively reviewed by Nigerian newspapers and esteemed scholars worldwide, further establishing his reputation as an influential writer. His books are often utilized as reference materials in universities, underscoring their academic value.

Afolayan's unwavering dedication to literature and community development is also evident through his active involvement in various organizations, most prominently the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). As the current Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter, Afolayan has demonstrated a profound commitment to promoting Nigerian literature and supporting fellow writers. AKURE BOOK CLUB URGES ONDO GOVERNOR TO RENAME STATE LIBRARY AFTER D.O. FAGUNWA

 

Akure Book Club, a book reading club under the aegis of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW Global), has made a passionate appeal to the outgoing Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Gov. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. The club is advocating for the Ondo State Library to be renamed in honor of the renowned literary figure, D.O. Fagunwa, recognizing his monumental contributions to Nigerian literature and culture.

The call was officially made through a press statement issued by Wole Adedoyin, the Founder of Akure Book Club. Adedoyin highlighted the significance of D.O. Fagunwa's work and his profound influence on African literature, particularly through his pioneering efforts in writing Yoruba-language novels. Fagunwa's legacy, Adedoyin asserts, is an integral part of Nigeria’s cultural and literary heritage.
