Call for Submissions: D.O. Fagunwa Memorial Anthology

 

ANA ONDO CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS: D.O. FAGUNWA MEMORIAL ANTHOLOGY

 


The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Ondo State Chapter, invites writers to submit their original works of literature for the D.O. Fagunwa Memorial Anthology.

 

INTRODUCTION: 

 

This anthology aims to celebrate the life and literary legacy of Chief Daniel Olorunfemi Fagunwa, MBE (1903-1963). Popularly known as D. O. Fagunwa, he was a pioneer Nigerian writer, whose pen wove a tapestry of timeless tales, infused with the rich essence of Yoruba culture and mythology. His iconic works: _Ogboju Ode ninu Igbo Irunmole, Igbo_ _Olodumare, Ireke Onibudo, Irinkerindo ninu Igbo Elegbeje, Adiitu Olodumare_ , and others, have enjoyed wide readership across generations. In addition to reviews, critiques and literary essays, they have also earned translation into English, French, Italian, Turkish and other languages across the globe by world class scholars, including Prof. Wole Soyinka, Edmund Olu Mabo, Mario Biondi, Louis Camara, Avcinin Oykusu, Prof. Olu Obafemi,  among others.

 

 THEME: 

 

Submissions should explore themes related to Fagunwa's work and legacy, such as:

 

- Yoruba culture and traditions

- Nigerian identity and experiences

- Folklore, mythology and metaphysics

- Social justice and morality

- The human condition

 

 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

 

- Poetry: Not more than 2 original poems, each not exceeding 300 words.

- Short Stories: Submit 1 original short story, not exceeding 5000 words.

- Essays: Submit 1 original essay, not exceeding 1000 words.

- Drama: Submit 1 original play or script, not exceeding 5,000 words.

- Flash Fiction: Submit up to 3 original flash fiction pieces, each not exceeding 500 words.

- Children's Literature: Submit 1 original story or poem for children, not exceeding 1,000 words.

- Submissions should be in Microsoft Word (.docx) format, Times New Roman, Single line spacing. 

 

Submissions should be in English or Yoruba language (with an English translation). Please include a brief bio (max. 100 words) and contact information.

 

However, please note that works written in Yorùbá language should be relatively short to facilitate translation, if demanded, and editing skills 

 

 ELIGIBILITY:

 

- Open to writers of all levels and backgrounds.

 

 SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

- Originality and creativity

- Relevance to the theme 

 

PUBLICATION:

 

- Selected works will be published in the D.O. Fagunwa Memorial Anthology.

- Authors will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology.

 

 DEADLINE:

 

March 31, 2025.
